Amanda is an entertainment journalist from Toronto, Canada. She started the site Candid Cinema in 2018 and has worked with other publications. Amanda has enjoyed podcasting and video reviews because they can often be community-based. Over the years, she’s developed friendships through the critic community that inspire her to continue writing.
As an only child, films have always been a haven for Amanda. She learned so much from cinema at a young age and was always fascinated by every aspect. Because she craved a sense of community growing up, gangster films became her favourite, and she found comfort in many of them.
Martin Scorsese is Amanda’s favourite director, and after watching “The Aviator,” she studied film at University and followed up with broadcast journalism.
Films can be a lifeline for many people, and Amanda has always tried to help others through the creative arts. Her goal as a critic is to amplify underrepresented voices and support women filmmakers as much as possible.
